A diner, done the long way
Wilf & Ada's opened in January 2014 at the corner of Bank Street and Arlington Avenue, in the spot that was Ada's Diner for some twenty years. The name is a salute to Wilf and Ada Laham, the neighbourhood fixtures who ran it before retiring.
The menu still reads like a classic diner: eggs, waffles, French toast, bennies, burgers and big sandwiches. The difference is in the kitchen, which makes as much as it can from scratch and buys from local suppliers and producers whenever possible.
It is a small, cosy brick room with an open kitchen and a chalkboard of daily specials.
On the chalkboard
Specials change with the day and go up on the board by the kitchen. Lately that has meant piña colada waffles with crushed pineapple, toasted coconut and coconut whipped cream.
